About Torus Pet
How long has Torus Pet been in the market?
Torus Pet has been providing reliable pet hydration solutions for about 10 years. Many customers report using their Torus water dispenser for over 6 years thanks to its tough, UV-protected design.
What is Torus Pet?
Torus Pet is a family-owned business based in New Zealand. Founded by Nathan and Danit, they create innovative hydration solutions with help from experts in product design, veterinary care, manufacturing, and more.
What does Torus mean?
"Torus" means hollow ring—the shape that makes the dispenser unique. It stores and releases water as pets drink, offering convenience at home or on the go.
Torus Water Dispensers
What is a Torus water dispenser?
Torus is a travel-friendly pet water dispenser with lock, flow, and fill modes. It stores water safely and uses replaceable filters to keep it fresh. No batteries or power needed.
What are the main benefits of a Torus?
The Torus provides all day access to water by storing it in its walls and releasing it through its filter for built-in filtration. The durable design uses gravity to release only as much water as your pet needs, preventing spills and tipping - great for messy drinkers! The Torus also has a lock feature so you can take it with you on a day out and still have enough fresh water for your pup!
What is the Torus made out of?
The Torus is made with food-grade materials and should not discolor. It’s unlikely that the plastic (Polyproplene - EP332K) will react with water. Moplen EP332K resin meets the FDA requirements in the Code of Federal Regulations in 21 CFR 177.1520 for food contact. All machinery lubricant MEDALLION™ FM GREASE NLGI 0 is NSF certified.
Note: Upon first use, there may be a slight odor and/or small fragments of carbon may be visible. These are harmless and will subside within a few uses.
Is there a product warranty?
Yes, we provide a 12-month manufacturer warranty from the date of purchase. Make sure to activate it on our website.
Torus Filters
What are Torus filters?
Torus filters are replaceable filters that can be inserted into your Torus. You can easily twist a standard or advanced filter into any of our Torus water dispensers. Each individual filter lasts 30 days, and they are sold in packs of six. You can subscribe to replacement filters to make sure your pet doesn’t go a day without clean water.
What are the filters made out of?
Standard filters use activated carbon. Advanced filters have a perforated wall made from stainless steel for a more controlled release. They also contain FDA approved and NSF certified antimicrobial features that reduce bacteria and remove impurities.
How does activated carbon work?
Torus Pet’s activated carbon filters contain small pieces of carbon that are very porous. With millions of tiny holes in each grain, just a few grams of activated carbon can cover the surface area of a sports field! This huge surface area enables activated carbon in both our Standard and Advanced filters to absorb contaminants and effectively remove them from water, so only clean water flows into the drinking well of the Torus.
Activated carbon is most effective at absorbing contaminants when there’s a slow water flow with low pressure and cold water. That’s why water passes slowly through the Torus and into the drinking well in lower volumes—enough for your pet to drink instead of gulp in one go.
What substances does activated carbon remove?
Activated carbon can effectively remove hundreds of contaminants found in tap water. Studies conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency in the United States (EPA) and NSF show that activated carbon is the only filter technology able to remove the following chemicals:
- All 32 identified organic contaminants including THMs (chlorine by-products)
- All 14 listed pesticides (e.g., glyphosate), including nitrates
- 12 most common herbicides
Are there harmful substances that activated carbon doesn’t remove?
Activated carbon is powerful and can remove over seventy contaminants from water without stripping water from healthy minerals like magnesium. It doesn’t remove dissolved metals like iron, which isn’t considered a contaminant.
Some microbiological contaminants like coliform, viruses, and small bacteria are more difficult to remove. Inorganic contaminants like arsenic, asbestos, and radionuclides are only partially removed.
How do I use the filters?
To replace a filter, run it under running water for about 10 seconds to remove any active carbon. Align the arrow of the cap to the tap icon, then insert or replace the old filter with a new one. Don’t forget to put the cap back on at the end. Check out our guides and videos for more information.
How long do the filters last?
Each filter lasts 30 days.
How should I get rid of used filter capsules?
Filters are 100% recyclable and should be recycled. Both the PET material and carbon are eco-friendly.
Antimicrobials
What is antimicrobial technology?
Any Torus made in 2021 or later contains Ionpure antimicrobial in the plastic. Certified materials help reduce bacteria buildup. Feel free to contact us to receive a list of certifications.
Are there antimicrobials in the filters?
Advanced Filters have Biosafe antimicrobial and high-grade activated carbon used in potable water and food applications. The Torus itself also contains antimicrobial technology.
The Environment
What is a Torus water dispenser made of?
Torus water dispensers and filters are made of PET polypropylene. They are antimicrobial, food-grade, and 100% recyclable. Stainless steel is also used in the making of Advanced Filters.

What if my pet has allergies?
In rare cases, pets can be allergic to polypropylene. Consult with your vet before use.
Where are Torus Pet products manufactured?
Most of our products are manufactured in China. Our New Zealand engineers directly oversee the manufacturing process. We also have an agreement in place that ensures fair pay for all workers and absolutely no child labor. Being transparent about our manufacturing is one of our key values.
Cleaning
How do I clean the inside of my Torus?
Remember that your pet’s mouth contains bacteria and microscopic pieces of food that can enter any bowl. In addition to the antimicrobial technology in the Torus, you should clean it on a weekly basis.
Fill your Torus with warm water and soap, vinegar, or sterilizing tablets (like the ones used for baby bottles). Lock the cap, give it a good shake, let it sit for a minute, empty, and rinse out. Sometimes dirt and other particles can get stuck in the entrance to the water well. We recommend using a dish-brush regularly to remove any build up.
Do not open the interior. It is sealed to protect the internal mechanics and ensure proper operation of the water dispenser. Visit our cleaning instructions to learn more.
Why does my Torus have “tidal marks”?
Tidal marks may appear due to mineral content in water. Since the sources of tap water can vary, water may contain chemicals or elements that leave marks. Typically, the harder the water is, the more likely it is to leave tidal marks. The antimicrobial material helps reduce buildup. We also advise regular cleaning.
Functional Problems
How full should the Torus be?
Water should reach the top of the outlet when in "flow" mode.
Why is my Torus not filling properly?
If your Torus is overfilling or isn’t filling, the cap most likely isn’t aligned properly. Remove and reinsert the cap and ensure that the slots for the neck of the cap are on each side of the Torus. For a more in-depth description, click here.
What if my dog chewed the CAP?
A canine conundrum! Not to worry, it’s happened before! You can purchase a replacement cap online.
Why can't I open the dispenser?
Torus water dispensers are sealed to protect the internal mechanism and prevent damage. Clean it as directed to keep it fresh and functioning.
